Joelina Spiess (she/her, 1998) graduated from the BA Theatre Directing at the Academy of Theatre and Dance Amsterdam in 2024. Born and raised in Berlin, she has developed her own style of making theatre in the Netherlands. Her works move between theatre, dance, performance and installation and are highly energetic, interdisciplinary and carry a dark sense of humor. In her creative process, she illuminates the darker sides of humanity, moving away from simplistic judgments of good and evil. Her quest for understanding stems from introspection, using her unresolved thoughts and feelings as a starting point. This "violent honesty" shapes the core of her approach and is both personal and universal. Her work provides space to discuss and let go of evil, with humor and depth. She is fascinated by human complexity and strives to translate this into her theater.
She has, among others, worked with SIGNA and Steven van Watermeulen.
